The start list of the 120th ITALIAN CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIP 2020 have been announced and the event will take place in Veneto from the 21 to 23 August.
The 2020 Italian Cycling Championship will be inaugurated by the INDIVIDUAL WOMEN ELITE TIME TRIAL (34.7 km) on Friday 21 August at 4.15 pm. The departure will be from Bassano del Grappa via Marostica and Colceresa with the arrival in Cittadella.
Immediately after at 6.30 pm, the ELITE MEN’S INDIVIDUAL TIME TRIAL (38.8 km) will also start from Bassano del Grappa but will tackle the climb of La Rosina from San Michele and will continue onto Marostica and Colceresa and finally arriving in Cittadella.
On Sunday 23 August at 10.30 the main event will start, the ELITE MEN’S ROAD RACE (253.7 km). Bassano del Grappa is the perfect setting to start the road race for the new Tricolore. The route spans across the cities of Cittadella, Castelfranco Veneto and Asolo. In Asolo, we will witness the ascent of Foresto Vecchio and the descend to Pagnano then taking on La Marosticana road and finally reaching Bassano del Grappa. For the first time, the riders will climb La Rosina, one of the symbols for cycling in Veneto. La Rosina will be climbed 11 times before the riders face the cobbled road of Il Muro della Tisa in Colceresa, resembling the atmosphere of Flanders but the territory of Veneto. The grand finale will include the last passage La Rosina and the Tempio Ossario which after the Great War, was used as an Ossuary for the fallen soldiers on Monte Grappa. The cyclist will then descend the 47-state road and their arrival is expected around 5pm in Cittadella, a walled city that has managed to keep its beauty intact for 800 years.
Road Race Profile:
Among the top riders for the road race there is Davide Formolo, the 2019 winner of the previous edition and the 2019 European road race champion, Elia Viviani. Among the other top riders are: Vincenzo Nibali, Sonny Colbrelli, Fabio Aru, Giulio Ciccone, Matteo Trentin and Gianluca Brambilla…. to name just a few.
