Emilia- Romagna is the home of fast cars and slow food. The factory is about 10 minutes outside of Bologna, so you’ll need a car. Even if you’re not a petrol head, you will appreciate this place. Watch a motorbike get assembled from inception to turning the key in the ignition- It’s magic.
Food market + lunch
The food markets in Bologna are some of the best in the world. The streets are flooded with locals buying fresh fruit, vegetables, and cured meats. All the Italian giants like tagliatelle al ragù, mortadella, tortellini, lasagne were all founded here. Head to Via Rizzoli and grab a quick panino for lunch with your favourite cured meat.
Wonder the streets
Bologna is fantastic to wonder the streets and admire the red rooftops, terracotta shutters and the imposing Due Torri. The tangled medieval streets which are weaved together, are filled with a buzzy atmosphere and young students discussing politics.
Visit the anatomy theatre
Bologna is home to the oldest university in the world. Visit the anatomy theatre where they first experimented with human dissection. It is the best surviving theatre that exists and is perfectly preserved in time. Notice how there are no crosses on the walls, just Pluto, the God of medicine, looking down at his students.
Aperitivo / dinner
Head to Caminetto d’Oro for a traditional dinner. Tortellini in brodo and all the classics unsurprisingly dominate the menu. The restaurant has a casual bistro next door which is great for a glass of wine or an aperitivo before dinner.
